Ministry of
Foreign Trade
Protection of local industry and promotion of exports
Her Excellency Madam Prime Minister Judith SUMINWA TULUKA
His excellency Julien Paluku Kahongya
Minister of Foreign Trade
International trade is a hub for development for the Democratic Republic of Congo. It should be highlighted to ensure external visibility of Congolese products and promote trade with producing countries and those importers of DRC’s raw materials.
The need for imports and exports has led the DRC to conclude trade agreements with strategic partners while participating in continental economic exchange platforms like ZLECAF or AGOA and other regional communities’ membership like CEEAC, SADEC, or COMESA, which all facilitate cooperation and international trade.
The Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku, is committed to popularising the national strategy for promoting exports. He recognises that this ministry is the key to leveraging economic growth and is dedicated to leading the way in this crucial aspect of the DRC’s economic development.
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo is unwavering in his commitment to protecting local jobs by preserving our industries. This involves combating competition from foreign products and promoting our exports to access the international market, ensuring the stability and growth of the DRC’s labour market.
“AGOA is an American law that promotes product penetration from Sub-Saharan Africa to access the U.S. market without payment of customs fees. Thanks to this American law, we can promote our products in the US market.”
“Assuming that we get to conquer 30% of the Chinese market with solid demographics, the DRC could know a great economic expansion by exports that would promote currency accumulation. The Ministry of Foreign Trade, as a cross-sectional ministry, works synergy with other ministries to position DRC as an exporting country”.
“OCC that allows quality control of the products will be able to ensure the backup of the quality of the products to be exported. The capacity reinforcement of the OCC DRILL Is indispensable for monitoring the state of imported and exported products.”
The Ministry of Foreign Trade oversees the industrialisation of the DRC. For this reason, it plays the role of a Congolese market protector, ensuring the quality of the products and slowing down external economic dependence. Thus, it values local industries for indigenous production by allowing entrepreneurs to create local industries.
